The Desert

Last week was Spring Break for the U, so we decided to pack our car and head down to sunny  Palm Springs for a week!  It was so nice, warm, and relaxing.  We stayed with my grandma, and she just ate Lily up.  We wish we could have stayed longer!  Thanks Grandma, for your love and hospitality.
Lily got into mischief as soon as she could...she fits in the cupboards.  They're about 6 inches off the ground, so it was the perfect height to climb right in to!

We went to an art festival and did a little shopping in downtown Palm Springs.

Lily loved being outside...

Picking up dirt and grass (and a few bugs too)...

Picking Grandma's flowers, it's a good thing she loves Lily!

Lily loves my Grandma so much.  We waited and waited for a table at this little burger joint, and Lily and Grandma made a new friend!

Tyler's.  Words don't describe the magnificence found in a mouth watering, fresh, handmade slider.  And their cole slaw....let's just say we ate there on more than one occasion!

We lazed by the pool.  Lily is SUCH a water baby.

Our fave little Mexican hole-in-the-wall restaurant.  Lily got her first ride on a donkey!

There's beautiful hiking all around, so we ventured onto the Indian Reservation and went up Palm Canyon.  Look at that tree!

On the way up the trail.

Looks good from up here!

Soooo warm and comfy.

Last but not least, the trip can't be complete without a pic at the Beaver Valley Chevron.  We'll get a family photo the next time we drive through, don't worry.

Miss You!

Dear Macy,
Thanks for coming to my birthday party even though you were so busy packing.  I'm sad that you moved so far away.  But I'm really excited to see you soon!
Love, Lily

Happy Birthday Baby!

It's true, she's one.  She's walking, blabbing, and smiling up a storm.  I can't believe a year has passed, and my little baby is suddenly not the quiet, still little thing whose head fit in one of my hands.  We had a good old fashioned birthday bash, complete with dinner, presents, cake, and a video of the past year.  Thanks to all our friends and family who came (and those who couldn't as well!)  We appreciate your love and support.

p.s. her birthday was really yesterday.

A Little Bit of This and That

So, not much of an all out theme girl, but I wanted it to flow.  Bambi without all the Disney hype.  But that's not really it either.  I call it "woodland" but most people say, "What the heck does that mean?"  So, see for yourself.  I just didn't get a picture of the cakes before they were devoured, but you can see Lily's mini cake.  The larger cake looked the same, just two tiered, with a 9" and a 6" cake on top.  I found these great pdf images from Etsy of a bird, owl, little red riding hood, a cottage, etc. that I printed up and used as favors.  They turned out to be cute coloring cards, wrapped in ribbon and topped with an acorn. Also, it's hard to tell, but there are acorns hanging from the branch.  I'm a little out there, you don't have to tell me!

I just want to say thanks to my co-planner, your ideas are amazing.  Thanks!

For the Record

I saw one of my friends did this list for her little boy that just turned 1.  I thought it was such a good idea, and I haven't been really good at writing down Lily's milestones.

Sleep:  you sleep about 11 hours each night, and go to bed anywhere between 7:30 and 8:30.  You're down to one nap, but it is a killer nap, usually lasting 2 1/2 to 3 hours.  We're currently getting rid of the bottle, but you still get your binkie, but in your crib only.  I just can't yank the bottle and binkie at one time, but the bink will be gone soon enough.

Eating:  despite what most people think, you eat A LOT.  For breakfast you really like blueberry waffles with apricots, or yogurt and toast.  Lunch is a reliable Easy Mac, but you also really love green beans and cheese.  For dinner, you love to sample whatever mommy and daddy are eating.  You really love tomatoes, avacado, asparagus, peaches, bananas, cake, and ice cream, but chocolate gives you a really bad tummy ache where you're up all night.

Transportation:  you're a walking maniac!  About a week ago you really got the idea that walking gets you to where you want to go a lot faster than crawling.  You love to chase after your cousins even though you can't ever catch up to them.  You also think you're a mountain climber and attempt to get up onto and off of just about anything.  You can get off the couch all by yourself, but mommy and daddy's bed has too far of a drop, and that scares you a little bit.

Talk:  you say "mama" and "dada" and your only real word is "dance" which you love to do.  You also say "datttt" all the time, but I don't think you're saying "that".  You love to talk on the phone, and will hold the phone to your ear, have a conversation, and walk around like you're a teenager.  That's a little overwhelming to see!

Teeth: You've got four on the top and two on bottom.  You usually do ok while teething, we just have one bad night where you can't sleep and magically in the morning there's a tooth!  You love to bite into things, but thankfully just food and an occasional bite on your crib!
